Billing
Lien-Based Care & Billing
Treatment doesn't have to wait for your claim to settle. We offer lien-based billing for qualifying personal injury cases.
How It Works
Care Now, Billing Resolved Later
Most auto accident patients start treatment billed to their own policy's Minnesota No-Fault (PIP) coverage — care can begin right away, regardless of fault. Lien-based billing typically comes into play once those No-Fault benefits are exhausted or unavailable, or for injury claims that fall outside auto coverage entirely, such as a slip-and-fall or workplace incident.
Under a lien-based arrangement, Twin Cities Chiropractic Spine and Injury Center provides treatment with payment deferred until your case is resolved rather than collected up front. This allows treatment to continue promptly, which can matter both for your recovery and for the strength of your documented medical record.
Lien-based billing is arranged case-by-case in coordination with your attorney. Contact our office to discuss whether your case qualifies.
Insurance Basics
Minnesota Is a No-Fault State
Minnesota is a no-fault state for auto insurance. Under the Minnesota No-Fault Automobile Insurance Act (Minn. Stat. § 65B.41–65B.71), every auto policy issued in Minnesota must include Personal Injury Protection (PIP) — also called No-Fault or Basic Economic Loss Benefits — which pays for reasonable, necessary medical care after a car accident regardless of who caused the crash.
In practice, that means chiropractic treatment for whiplash, back pain, and other accident-related injuries is typically billed directly to your own auto insurer's No-Fault coverage first — before fault is ever determined, and without waiting for a liability claim to resolve. Minnesota's standard minimum No-Fault coverage is $40,000 in Basic Economic Loss Benefits: up to $20,000 for medical expenses and up to $20,000 for wage loss and other related costs.
Once No-Fault benefits are exhausted or unavailable, care can often continue under a lien-based billing arrangement while a liability claim is pending. Coverage details vary by policy — this is general information, not legal or insurance advice, and our office verifies your specific No-Fault benefits before treatment begins. This section describes Minnesota's rules specifically — Wisconsin, including Hudson, is an at-fault state with a different claims process; see our Hudson location page for details.
Candidacy
Is Lien-Based Billing Right for Your Case?
Lien-based billing is typically considered when a case involves a clearly identifiable liable party or insurance coverage — most often auto accidents and some workplace injuries. Every case is different, so eligibility is confirmed with our office before treatment begins under this arrangement.
This arrangement is a billing accommodation, not a loan or a guarantee of case outcome — your underlying legal claim and its outcome remain entirely between you and your attorney.
